National Issue

Is'nt Blogging great?

I regularly go through different blogs, particularly secretdubai, read about the pro's and cons of living/existing in Dubai.

Lets talk about the locals. Are all locals rich? Are all of them living in villas and driving luxury cars?

If not, why are they not supported by their 'brothers', the Futtaims and the Nakheels....

How does the government help them?

Im an expat but have many emirati friends, who cannot answer these questions, honestly, because the pace of Dubai progress is overwhelming even for them, something that is discussed in their own homes each day. They feel that as emiratis, they're in the right place at the right time, but they feel lost, much like many others caught in the tide.

Having lived here all my life, I wonder what other country operates this way. I say 'operates' cos this city is now a large only-profit organisation named Dubai Inc run by our famous CEO. Locals are a small minority, so the quest for control is understood, but I always wonder, who are the low-income nationals, I mean I always heard any local can sponsor an expat, and make some sitiing money on the deal, then why are there any low-income locals at all? Shouldnt they be out scouting for some newly landed expat?

My apologies for my ignorance on this subject, but I had a heated argument with a friend, and since secretdubai has been able to addres so many issues here, I thought I'd give it a shot on my blog.

Al well, any answers?
